While in Rome, Bodhi picked up a really bad stomach bug. Rome is a very popular tourist city and while we were there we visited many historical landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and the Piazza Nova. These landmarks attract well over 1 million tourists during high season! After one day of walking around Rome, we noticed that Bodhi’s demeanor was off. He wasn’t as playful as he normally is, and he wasn’t touching any of his food. We waited to see if the symptoms would disappear, but after 4 hours they just got worse. We were really concerned and knew we had to take him to a vet.
Finding a vet in a foreign city is tough enough, but having to worry about the additional costs gave us even more stress. Thankfully, Bodhi did not catch anything serious. After a few hours of waiting and examinations, Bodhi left the vet with antibiotics, and doctor’s order to rest. Due to this unfortunate situation we were unable to see the rest of Rome like we originally planned. We had planned on visiting sites like The Colosseum, The Spanish Steps, and Villa Borghese but left without seeing them.
When you’re traveling, unexpected things can come up! Since we travel a lot, we knew about regular travel insurance. But, after this incident with Bodhi we knew he needed to be covered as well. Our regular pet insurance does not cover Bodhi when he is outside of the US.
